update: I've been using the J Rockett Archer IKON as boost instead of the MXR CBMOD.
I don't have a BK Butler Tube Driver (although he is apparently back building them; albeit limited), so i have to use something along the lines.
The Archer IKON seems to fare better.
I do have some of those cheap ART MP Tube preamps laying around... might fuck with them some time; just see what happens. They have a single 12AX7 in them.
