I have a RAT (new manu.) and my old MP-1, but I haven't gone down this particular Nuno rabbit hole yet. I will fiddle...

BTW, everyone should own a RAT - it's really that good (used judiciously as a boost in front of a cooking tube amp).

They're cheap, too and built like a brick shithouse.

I generally keep the tone, level at noon, and the distortion just a hair above "off"... just a little touch... then the GAINZ is aligned. :D

The EQ got me a good part of the way !

Digging in when playing those riffs helps too.
The later clips you posted, I could hear things getting closer EQ wise.

But (and to literally borrow a Nigel Tufnel quote) you need just a little extra "push" of gain.

The channel I'm recording on sounds like frying bacon when I'm not muting the strings.

It seems ridiculous the amount of gain this guy is using to get his tone, but you're absolutely right.. it need MOAR gain to get there.

Specifically, more high-end.

I've been telling PLX Rat pedal for that crazy pinched harmonics, and curnch crunchy clanky gain, even without the L500XL the real Rat delivers Nuno on platter.

Speaking of the Randall amps, in the latest Pornograffitti Live 25 concert in the video they do a quick behind the amp stack wall and it looks like two Marshall amps(Probably DSL's) sitting on road cases and I'm sure his Whiteface Rat pedal is there as well. At least he turns on the Randall to make people think he is using them...........

Turns out the trusty old MXR Distortion+ is the secret pedal for both Nuno and Ed :!:

In the grand scheme of GAINZ (as I'm sure you know), Nuno's gain amount is wimpy in comparison to some of the metal chug shit that's out there today.

I really think PLX needs to snag a RAT.

Not just for Nunotone® - but killer tone all around.

It even does a convincing Jimmy Page Led Zep II - whipped this goofball cover up right after I got my RAT.

PAF Gibson CS SG, RAT (set very low of course) into '66 Deluxe.

RAT has "that" grind and EQ in spades.

All this NUNO talk so I broke out the Rat and my Marshall 2203.........

I'm sitting here playing my Kramer/Seymourizer II p/u's/ Splawn Marshall gain around 3-4 highs dialed back with my White face Rat and it is NUNO heaven... So I am going to have to politely disagree that the MXR Distortion + is anything like the Rat whiteface w/LM308 chip. 8-)

The percussive crunchy root notes and quacky clank is all there as well as the easy pinched harmonics.............. ;)

Randy all day long with the MXR but not NUNO.

All I can say is you'll be chasing NUNO a long time without the Whiteface Rat..... :P I emailed you the NUNO setting pics.......... ;)
