The Vintage 30 IR sounds pretty good... nice tight mid range and controlled low end. I think the biggest improvement is from the pre-amp gain on 8...the gain punch, compression and it's crunchier on the closed notes. Preamp on 8 is definitely more NUNO correct from what I'm hearing. It's not too gainy at all...........it's about right. ;) Now you just need to dial in the high end bite somewhat.

Can you use this same recorded clip now and just try out different IR's to compare and see which speaker captures the best NUNO.

I'd like to hear this exact clip but through the greenback/12h-30 mix then just a 12H-30 55HZ then just a greenback 75 or 55Hz?
Amp is till at 115 VAC on the variac.

No way Jose :!:

I'm not changing these speakers IR's

It's all there, bro. The fucking squeaks he gets between notes, the feel.. it's all there.

I'll continue to tweak the EQ, for sure.

I can't argue with that what I hear. It does sound really good and the low end is tight and controlled versus the 12H-30 IR.

I just wanted to hear the other speakers with the preamp on 8 with the amp on 115VAC by comparision but I totally agree it seems to fit the bill.

The nice prominent almost fuzzy crunch riding the notes is there on all the muted ascending/descending scale runs as well.

The V30 seems to have that midrange bounce and pokey qualities to it..........

There is depth and compression on the picked legato notes now with the preamp on 8 that wasn't there when you had the preamp on 6. ;) 8-)

Are you still running the Standard NUNO setting on the RAT?

Aren't you glad I kept bitching at you now............    You gotta stop doubting me and lll............... ;) :P

Next up that 50K linear NFB pot added to your amp so you get that 100K JCM800 NFB and all the pieces of the puzzle will be complete.....

I think the real key to his tone is:
A 14~16kΩ humbucker
RAT pedal
JCM-800
Celestion G12H-30 (Vintage 30) speakers

Everything else.. the EQ and all that, is just the icing on the cake.

I'm lost with all the changes.

That being said, the only speakers I know of that are "Nuno-legit" in his playing career are:

- G12H30 (per Michael Wagener on Pornografitti and prolly III Sides)
- G12M25 Greenbacks in the Randall Nuno model 4x12 cab (per Two Notes)
https://www.two-notes.com/en/product/rand-nb412/

...although the now out-of-stock cab sold at Musician's Fiend (yes, Fiend) says they're V30 (vintage 30s).

I have both the Two Notes Nuno cab, and prolly multiples of the G12H30s (Ownhammer or otherwise), but I don't remember off the top of my head which iRs they are.

I'll have to dig. And I'll also look at what speaker iRs I used for this clip of mine:

In the OwnHammer Studio Mix Collection they're listed as: V30-EN is based on an English made Celestion Vintage 30

I tried all the other speaker IR's that have G12H in the name, but none of them sounded right for the Nuno stuff.

So, I have the amp at 115VAC on the variac
Every knob on the amp is at 6 (except BASS, that's on less than 1)
The RAT pedal is set the way HD showed me Nuno runs his
Jalen FW pickup
I'm cutting out 700Hz @ 7dB and boosting 5kHz @ 8dB

Your Decadence Dance clip there sounds dead on correct.

I thought you said you have the preamp gain on 8 on these latest clips with the V30?

Yeah, I just looked over at the amp.. that is correct.

That was one of the very last changes I made.

I was going to say don't regress back the setting of 6 that chokes the amp. Stay on 8 for NUNO! ;) You might want to write your setting down somewhere....Just sayin.... ;)

I think why the vintage 30 works for your setup is mainly the guitar, the mahogany body is darker and the FW pickup is darker so the brightness and mid emphasis of the vintage 30 works perfectly to bring out the high end bite more like you were running an ash/alder N4 and L500XL pickup.

I say use what works with your setup and the V30 sounds like it works for you! With a L500XL the darker greenback and 12H-30 would work well to tame the highs and thin qualities of that pickup. Your setup is opposite.......... hence the V30 shines here. :D 8-)

From the clips the D and G seem bouncey and tight and using III term..pokey with that telltale crunch on the muted ascending and descending run ala from the RAT.... I think you have arrived at your destination.

I'd say you have 98% NUNO tone PLX....that extra 2% is the 100K NFB. ;) But you already know how to take care of that... 8-)
