This has been beat to death so why not a little more?
I sometimes wonder if the amp sounds better without adding pedals to it than when you do. In the right situation, it is of course beneficial and even very beneficial. To do it just because makes no sense to me. I still think in most cases, less is more. Is a boost even necessary if you have the right amp and a quality amp that does what you need it to do in the first place?

Re: To Boost or Not To Boost
Depends on the tone you're going for really.
In some cases, boosting works and might be the only way to get "that" tone.
In other cases, you don't need to boost.
Most if not all "boost" pedals will add a little of their own flavor to the mix... flavor that no amp can provide.

Re: To Boost or Not To Boost
Agree on the flavor...we all like our seasonings but sometimes too much of a good thing turns into a bad thing in the kitchen. The same for sound often times as well. While I understand not everybody has a ton of amps and pedals are cheaper than amps I often wonder if the sound we are after can be had by simply tweaking the amp and cause us a lot less grief and money spent.
