Christ I just can't listen to guitars tuned that low ... everything just sounds shit to me

I'm not sure how much he is downtuned but I always thought these hotmod things really made the amp way too tubby sounding.
Mark Cameron made something similar that was pretty much like Jose mod/master volume setup that sounded pretty good. I think Psychodave has it and he has posted clips using it in his 1967 plexi and it was pretty ripping.......

That device (and I remember Dave Szbados from Plexi Palace early 2K) is pretty much the same thing as the 80's Kasha Rock Mod (which they still make, version III, I believe)... which Jake E. Lee used live for Badlands tours (see Jakey tone thread, don't remember off top of my head).
