In this circuit board picture what is the function of what looks like JFET's or Transistors on the board there are four of them. Are they using the diode sections of the transistors for the clipping diodes like Jose Arrendondo did?

I'm just curious because my BYOC kit doesn't have JFET's or Transistors by the looks of things, how accurate is the BYOC Yellow overdrive to the original early Boss OD-1 schematic? I know it has regular diodes for clipping in the kit, I read the Hartwell clone uses diodes so why does this OD-1 in the above pic have the 4 transitors/JFETs I don't see regular diodes on the board.
Here's my BYOC board shot- In this pic they have the LED'a installed where the diodes go.

Here's the Hartwell no JFETs or Transistors either..

Re: 1979 Boss OD1 questions
I did some digging and it looks like the OD-1 that has JFET's and transistors in it are used for the buffering circuit so I guess a 79 is not like the earlier 77 models like the BYOC models. Also looks like the BYCO is an exact clone of the very first models of the OD-1 which is cool.
