Floyd Rose 1000 vs Original + Fat Brass Block

Post by lll »

One step in my Charvel So Cal modding project is swapping the stock FR 1000 with an Original + Fat Brass Block.

Got that done today, and there is a difference, for anyone looking to upgrade.

With OFR + FBB, notes "sing" and sustain better, by a decent amount. Overall tone feels "livelier".

The FR 1000 is a good trem, but there's better.

FR 1000 - made in Korea
OFR - made in Germany by tone elves

Did you try the brass block on the 1000 before swapping? and did you try the OFR without the brass block first ..... that way you would know what factor the Brass is playing, i'm guess that is the main difference

Wasn't doing it to compare. Decided before I even ordered the guitar to replace the 1000 with an OFR+brass block.

Then reported my findings.

The stock Fender Stratocaster sustain blocks are all made from an alloy of copper and lead ( a.k.a "pot metal" ). It's inexpensive, and sucks tone.

My Schaller Floyd Rose came stock with a chrome-plated brass sustain block, but it was very thin. I swapped mine out for an over-sized one machined out of solid "bell brass". Huge improvement in sustain and tone :!:

I think they're sold under the brand name "FU Tone".

cool ... only commented because when I changed the block in my Charvel to Brass it completely killed what I loved about the tone of the guitar so I took it out and put the stock on back on
