As Much As I Dig Speaker iRs...

Post by lll »

I find that I'm typically needing to up the treble freqs to get the tone to sound like a real speaker.

The best tones I've whipped up so far have all had the treble bumped up in some form.

Not 100% sure why this is usually needed for iRs in general (I can surmise has to do with the power amp they used, etc), but yeah, it takes some work massaging things to sound real good.

Try the EAS Studio IRS. They most likely will be what you are looking for.

Saw your post the other day about them. I will try one, but I wish they had a few more speaker types to select from.

But Greenbacks are #1 for me, and they've got that.

I've noticed this too.

My theory is that it has to do with the difference between studio reference monitors and 12" guitar loudspeakers..

So, when using IR's you are typically listening to a pair of desktop reference monitors only. For me, when I'm playing through a 4x12 cab and live miking it, that's what I'm hearing in the room. I'm adjusting everything based on that sound.

It's a whole different sound if it's just coming from the monitors.

My 2 cents. :)
