Was using the D'Addario XLNY strings for a while. Liked them, and they seemed to last a while, not quite like an Elixr though.
Also no coating hanging off them after a while, lol.
Anyways, went down the rabbit hole with Stringjoy and Curt Mangan pure nickels.
They sound good, have that warm tone.
Find it lacking a little.
When I did my JTM45, I wanted that vintage tone or whatever the fuck people say.
However, I feel I was missing the snap and clarity of the XLNY's.
Went back to the XLNY's and there it is.
Not knocking Stringjoy or Curt Mangan whatsoever. Quality strings for sure!
I did try the EB Cobalts when they came out years ago, but weren't for me at the time.
Was running a '76 Pro Reverb combo, EB Cobalts didn't agree with my ears.
Maybe try 'em again?
What are you guys using?
Think Im back to XLNY's

80's: GHS Boomers
90's: GHS Boomers
00's: D'Addario XLs, DR Tite Fits
10's GHS Burnished Nickel Rockers, Optima Golds
20's: GHS Burnished Nickel Rockers, Optima Golds
Best sounding strings I ever used on a Strat were called "Snake Oil Strings" brand (SOB); only had two packs in early 00's.
Not sure if they're around anymore.
