PRESS RELEASE - Man Arrested for Kidnapping

Arrested: Bradley John King, Male White, 42-year-old resident of North Kingston, RI

On Thursday, November 14, 2013, at approximately 9:31 p.m., the Newport Beach Police Department was notified by the Anaheim Police Department that a possible kidnapping had occurred in the area of 28th Street and Balboa Boulevard. The preliminary investigation indicates that, at approximately 6:00 p.m., King and a female acquaintance began arguing while out for dinner and drinks. The argument escalated and, at approximately 7:15 p.m., King forced the woman into his vehicle. When the victim attempted to exit the vehicle, King forcibly detained her and pointed a firearm at her head in order to keep the victim in the vehicle against her will. King then drove to Anaheim, where the victim was able to successfully escape from the vehicle. The victim called the Anaheim Police Department and notified them of the incident.

With the assistance of Anaheim Police personnel, Newport Beach Police Detectives began to search for King. In the early morning hours of November 15, Newport Beach Police Detectives located King in Anaheim. Personnel from both agencies subsequently conducted a vehicle stop on King and he was taken into custody without incident. King was booked into the Newport Beach Jail and charged with Kidnapping; he is currently being held without bail. Additional charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Gun will be requested.
