The main forum area isn't bad. The actual gear and music sections are not bad. Seems like they typically move the non-gear related problem threads to Off Topic section. The most vile and hateful content seems to be reside in the General Section of Off Topic. Supposedly, the only off limits things there are blatant racism, porn, and annoyance static images and memes. But even there they have a tendency to blur the lines of what they claim is prohibited content.

They appear to use their "Off Topic, especially the General Section" to contain the stench of the cesspool. The moderation of their Off Topic section has it's own rules though that are not the same as the TOS outlined on the site.

If I was an owner, I would be concerned about the defamatory type legal exposure from all that garbage in OT there. Apparently the Principal elements of the site don't care. Maybe they even welcome the alleged draw it brings. Can't imagine a serious vendor or MFR wanting to contribute there. But who am I to say? I don't know what really goes on in the bowels of that beast.

Odd situation.

The have a big board section of MFR's threads. If I was a vendor, or mfr. I would not contribute content wise or financially until they cleaned up that eyesore.

It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out over time.

It's all a big facade. No one of importance uses rig-talk.com as their home forum anymore; manufacturer or otherwise.

Forgive my ignorance on this if you can in asking this; can anything actually be done about the multiple alts?

I read a lot of complaints about it. Quite the contentious subject there.

Yes, but that would require actual work (computer forensics, if you will) for the owners and mods; they don't want to make the effort.

And successful deletions would cut down on the perceived forum population; they're already hurting in that department.

Hmm.........interesting and thank you for all of that.

What I find most puzzling of all, what are the true interests of the principal owners in maintaining the site in it's current form? What am I overlooking? How can it possibly be profitiable (or even break-even of costs) to allow something like that to just freewheel (even if it's just one part of the forum) in the sewer?

Is the site somekind of hobby/experiment for the principal owners?

A strange situation I wish I understood much better than I do at the moment.

Thank you again for that. Obviously I had no clue.

Allegedly has the veneer of something that could otherwise be credible.

Oh well.....there's some weird shit going on in this world.

There's always been weird shit in this world; it just so happens that the internet (with its inherent ability to allow people to remain relatively anonymous) attracts the village idiots, liars and crooks from all walks of life and lets the entire world see it.

Absolutely! Thank you for indulging my simple-minded ignorance in stating the obvious. I'll get out of here and into the gear sections. Believe it or not, that's what I come into these forums for. The gear talk. Here's to hoping activity in the actual gear and music sections of all these less visited venues positively increase from the trickle it is at the moment. I could be wrong about that, and if I am I expect to get called out on the error of my observations. If I get some invective rocks thrown at me because of it, oh well. Probably deserve it.

Sad to see the contemporaneous polarization here and abroad, and the existential angst and acrimony creep into so much around us. Even something as harmless as an online forum about music and musical gear is not immune.

Unfortunately says a lot about current society.

On a positive note though, and for whatever it's worth, I dig what you all are doing here. I truly hope it all works out the way you want.
