I watched Pete Thorn's video that he did with Dave Friedman about a month after Ed passed (RIP).

One cool thing that I had never heard about Ed's 12301 "precious" Marshall SLP was that the mid pot was out of spec by a factor of 2..

Did this mod to my Zinky Mofo a few months back and it brought forth divine mids. I love to dime the eq, which is a ‘59 Bassman style TMB tonestack, and that gave a scooped mids sound with the 25K mid. Now it’s just right.

Going to Fender pure nickel 10’s from EB Slinky 11’s cleaned up the bass and made it way more musical to the ears as well. That “crashing” treble got cleared up too.

Yeah, most of the info was already known. The two exceptions for me were the 50K mid pot, and the importance of the Boss GE-10.

When Pete demonstrated those by switching them in and out while playing, it was undeniable.

It was awesome to hear someone get everything spec'ed out correctly for once, and then actually be able to play the riffs well enough to prove how the entire signal chain came together.

The stripped tolex bare wood headbox plexi that you always see in the pics of the 78 tour right alongside 12301 and later is supposedly a Superbass head that Ed also liked according to Dave Friedman and Mike Soldano. I wonder if that amp ever made it onto any albums instead of 12301????
