5150 Studio Session 1993 VAN HALEN

This does not sound like a 5150 to me, it doesn't have the compression. What say you?

Van Hagar always gives me flashbacks to when they changed Darrins on Bewitched.

Do you think the amp in the video sounds like 12301, Soldano SLO or Peavey 5150?

Man, by the time Sammy replaced DLR, Ed had gone so far into the whole pitch-shifting bullshit that I found his tone difficult to listen to.

Always admired his playing, but to me.. his tone just went to hell after the 1984 album.

It became a buzzy, chorus-y mess. No telling what amp he's playing thru.

His tone is pretty dry in this clip so the detune shouldn't be an issue.

I think this is either an Soldano SLO or another Marshall head that Ed liked. It seems gainer than 12301 with a bit more compression which is why I went for the SLO guess but it could be another Marshall SL or plexi. You do see him step on a footswitch at 12:40 and there is a volume boost for the solo and the pedal appears white so it could be going from the crunch to lead channel on an SLO IMHO. Or some type of boost pedal....I love analyzing this stuff PLX.............................................

If you listen to the Cabo Wabo 1990 live clip with the SLO it sounded amazing in that live clip. Here ya go to compare to the above clip.

For a direct comparison here is 1991 supposedly with 5150's, I hear more compression with the 5150's...

I dunno, man.

I been busy mowing 30 acres, killing rattlesnakes, tryna fix 5 miles of dirt roads.. driving a tractor around all day.

I still haven't installed the damned Super 70 clone pickup and played it yet.
