What was Ed's secret pedal ?

Post by PLX »

Nitro knows the answer, but he's not telling. :x

Jose knew, but he took the secret to the grave. :(

Metroamp forum had it all sorted out in 2014.. http://forum.metropoulos.net/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=43969

Not true, NITRO was convinced it was an MXR Distortion Plus...... He was wrong IMHO...

Robin L confirmed the pedal on the pedal board that was rehoused in a empty Colorsound Tonebender housing was just a looper pedal to be able bypass the MXR 6band EQ because it was so noisy... that explanation made alot of sense. I can confirm the MXR noise, the Boss GE10 is extremely quiet.

Here's a stockish 69 Superlead build, not variaced run at line level AC, Lar/Mar PPIMV, Seymour Duncan model 78>Clinch EP-PRE>Boss GE7>69 Marshall NOS build EH6ca7's>Marshall 1982B cabinet with 55hz 12H-30 Heritage Reissue speakers. Starts off no Clinch , then Clinch, then the GE7 is added in for the VH stuff

It has LONG been hidden and guarded like Fort Knox but finally here is the REAL secret sauce (yuk!) to EVH's tone.

No, NOT kidding as it takes something this big to make it a reality as his tone was massive.

Others think it wasn't a pedal at all, but a double-variac setup.

Somebody has the diagram for this; just saw it the other day.
