Good call on the speakers and on ditching the BE-OD pedal and only using one EP-Pre.

:D

Those speakers break up so much sooner than the others that you don't need that much gain to push them into those tones.

Ya those are my iRs of choice for 1st album Eduardo. For example, I used them on this:

No Fab Filter EQ.

Just Pultec EQ set exactly like Jim Gaustad sets his in his videos.

8.7kΩ asymmetric humbucker > Ep-pre pedal > JCM-800 > reactive load

Then when you get your Jalen pickup (today assuming), predictions will be that *that* is the missing component.

You'll get to *that* level of gain Eduardo-style without needing a boost.

You'll go beyond Eduardo and hit hair metal level of gain with a boost.

The stars will align etc...

Yeah, I think you and HD are correct about that.

I certainly appreciate all the help in getting my VH tone sorted !

For anyone playing along at home, here's Jim Gaustad's Pultec EQ settings. I'm using the Waves brand Pultec plugin, so it looks different from Jim's, but all the same setting are there:

and here's what the Waves version looks like with the same settings:
