The Fryette LX II Power Amp was the only thing I found that was neutral and still had tube warmth. Everything else was a compromise somewhere IMO. For a grab and go, it is almost like you have no choice for a simple solution but to get the powered unit.
I would imagine if Line 6 can make a compact unit that you don't stumble over then Kemper can as well. Even if it isn't as fully capable, etc but still is packed with great, usable features I would be happy to buy it.
