The EVH thread and people preferring EVH's rhythm playing over his lead playing (while both being brilliant) got me to thinking about other great rhythm players, their impact and so forth.
Who do you think is better and more of a foundational rock for their bands foundation?
Eddie or Malcolm?
or
Somebody else entirely?

That's another hard question - I'm thinking if we are talking strictly rhythm players with no acknowledgement towards any other skills, between these two just maybe it tips towards Malcolm a bit more. As far as best rhythm players though, I've gotta say Hetfield, Mustaine, Eric Peterson, and Scott Ian could all vie for that spot (and that's just off the top of my head).

Kind of apples to oranges as far as player comparison goes IMO but I consider them both equally important in the world of rhythm guitar. Malcom really did hold it down while Angus was out there doing his thing. Eddies rhythm structures were so unique that they just had a different thing going on.

Honestly I have no idea ... I tend to listen to music where the songs grab me.. so lyrics are just as important as the riffs or the rhythm .. but if I dig in I would say Dave Mustaine is right up there in terms of great riffs, great rhythm and great lyrics
