Phrasing (individuality) is in the fingers.
This explains why, for example, Ted Nugent played through Ed's gear and still sounded like Ted Nugent (playing through Ed's gear).
Some guitarists are difficult to emulate; not because of their gear, but their phrasing. EVH's swing, Blackmore's soloing, etc
