Gain Staging

So, I spent quite a few hours working on gain staging in my signal chain last night..

Figured out a couple of things.

1. I was overdriving the input of my audio interface. This was causing clipping inside the DAW.

2. After figuring this out and correcting it, I realized the reason I had it set this way was because it actually sounded good in the room playing through my desktop monitors !

3. Now, the tone and feel are missing something that I was definitely getting by overdriving the input.

It's a little bit odd because this was creating a really good sound "in the room", playing thru studio monitors. But the recorded tone was raspy, overly distorted.
