Quick trick with getting killer drums:
Have a track for your drums, then bus that to a 2nd track for "squashed drums" (parallel, or sometimes called "New York" compression).
On the "squashed drums" track, slap a compressor (1176, or even better, a dbx 160 - which is *the* drums comp) on it and squash the fuck out of it.
Then blend in the "squashed drums" track to taste. This will give you the *punch*.
