I wouldn't use any FREDs or Fast Diodes. The IN4007's are pretty close to what was used in the 60's and 70's. The fast recovery diodes give a more hi-fi tone and feel.
I looked at the board and sure enough, those are UF4007's..

That's been so long ago, I do not remember why I used those. :?

Ordered the Plexi/JCM800 choke and 1N4007 diodes.

I've tried them in the past and I didn't like them at all. Rob Galpin came to the same conclusions with the UF4007 fast diodes as well. The IN4007's are just more classic for what ever reason. All my amps have used the IN4007's even my high gainers.

What's weird is I'm sitting here looking at the 4 diodes I pulled off the turret board of the BE-50 clone.. and they're UF4007's as well. :?

WTF ?

The parts manifest of the kit calls them out as 1N4007's, but it came with UF4007's. I just replaced them with 1N4007's when I replaced all the rectifications circuits.

George Metropoluous shipped me some UF4007's because he didn't have the IN4007's, he claimed they weren't any different. Maybe the FREDS and super fast diodes were more different but I swear I remember everyone trying the UF4007 didodes and those people with ears that I respected didn't care for them...at least regarding a plexi amps overall tone and feel performance. Maybe with higher gain stuff they won't make much of a difference I dunno. YMMV.

I also have the Lemco "dog bone" 47pF "fizz" cap and the Synergy Royal Mustard .68uF cap now.

What power tubes would you recommend ?

Looking at the Psvane brand recommended by Dave Friedman.

If you are going for EVH stuff the EH6CA7 are the closest to actual Sylvanias they just need to be burned in good to weed out the initial mortality tubes.

The EH's are beam forming element tubes just like a 6L6 and NOS 6ca7 tubes under a heavy vaccum as well. I ran a quad in my 69 and they sound just as good as my Sylvania's to be honest.

If you are a EL34 fan then the EHEL34's are super reliable these days and pretty much a clone of XF1 Mullards, Dave F uses them in his new production amps for a while now.

I find KT88's sound more like a big EL34 versus a 6550 which are like a big 6L6.

For 12ax7's I would go Tung SOL reissue on V1, Ruby HGAC5 Chinese 8th Gen for V2 cathode follower, Whatever your favorite PI tube is, alot of people like the Sovtek LPS but I like NOS Sylvania 12ax7.
