Those E83CC are new tube for JJ they are for audiofile grade and are supposedly different than thier regular ECC83 standard 12ax7's.
So you have the E83CC's then, Redplated on Euro talk loves them.

Re: Marshall 2203 REEEEEEEEEEE-work
I may pick up a couple to try them. I have a stash of Tung Sol's and I pickup up some CV004 Mullard reissues to try and didn't care for them in the 69 Marshall. I saw that George was using them in the Metroplex so I gave them a whirl and the Tung Sol was better to my ears.
I would like to hear these JJ 83CC's compared to my old JJ ECC83's that I have laying around.
If you didn't like the actual Sylvania 12ax7 in the amp then you might not like the Tung Sol's PLX so if you like your E83CC's save your money unless you want to try one out of curiosity.

All I know is, when I put those NOS preamp tubes in, I lost a lot of gain. Amp sounded kind of dead.harddriver wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 5:23 pm I may pick up a couple to try them. It sounds killer with the JJ's in all three slots.

Re: Marshall 2203 REEEEEEEEEEE-work
Looks like Doug's Tubes has a better price on the JJ's
edit: So, I was collecting up all these 12AX7's from tube rolling last night, and I found the box the ones in this amp came in..
They are the JJ ECC 803S. The long-plate version.

Re: Marshall 2203 REEEEEEEEEEE-work
So you have the 803 long plates in all three slots? V1 V2 V3
Those E83CC interest me somewhat but I have enough tube to last me a lifetime.
I usually use JJ and Chinese in the CF and PI if I don't want to use my NOS Sylvania but I bought alot of them years ago while they were cheap as well as Sylvania 6ca7's. NOS RFT's are really harsh in V1 and only good for V2 and V2 IMHO.
I bought some NOS EI from the 80's and I didn't like them either for V1, kinda sterile and harsh. THe Mullard blackburns from 1963 were really dark and round but for a bright Marshall I could see why people like them very AC/DC like IMO.

Yes.harddriver wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 8:10 pmSo you have the 803 long plates in all three slots? V1 V2 V3
edit : No.

Shit man, I actually pulled the tubes to verify and all 3 are the JJ ECC83S
The one on V1 must be a high-gain rated tube because everything else in that slot sounded weak and anemic compared to that JJ.

If it sounds good it sounds good.......that's all that matters......
Do you have an attenuator in your studio room to use in line with the Speaker cabinet to drop some more volume?

Yeah, I think I might try that tonight. Like we talked about earlier.. hook up the 4x12 cab in parallel with the reactive load box.harddriver wrote: ↑Wed Jul 20, 2022 1:51 am If it sounds good it sounds good.......that's all that matters......

Honestly, this amp sounds (and feels) so damn good, I might just play for about 4 hours and geek out on this crazy 2-tube-pulling-70VAC-variac world I've discovered.

Re: Marshall 2203 REEEEEEEEEEE-work
Enquiring minds want to know your thoughts on the whole 6ca7 verus EL34 debate. Are you going to reinstall the EL34's or keep the 6CA7's?
How do you get away with playing so late into the night, my wife wouldn't let me get away with that.........
