Well, I figured it out.

As good as those last couple of clips sounded to me, I was saying about how it didn't sound immediate enough.. or present.

I had the fucking presence knob turned to zero.. I have no idea why.

I had both MASTER and PREAMP on 6

For what it's worth, I turned the PRESCENCE up to 5 and played all afternoon yesterday.

Did you turn the variac up to 115/120ACV as well or are you gonna fight about that to the end?

It'll literally take you not even 3 seconds...

Just for kicks and grins turn the preamp to 7-8, presence to taste and see what you get...
