Nitro and GoodGuest were right.. all the other idiots in teh MetroAmp forum clique were wrong (again)

This pedal/circuit existed in the time frame where Ed could have used it to record VHI
Jimmy Page used this pedal (well documented) and Ed was notorious for copying all of Page's gear in the 70's.
Nothing else sounds like this circuit running into the front of a Plexi. None of the other "secret pedals", or any combination thereof produce this sound.

You can take that "plexi on 10" bullshit and shove it where the sun don't shine.

I've tried all the other "secret pedals", tried resistive & reactive loads, re-amping, using a a clean little Fender combo as a pre-amp for a Marshall 100W, pulling two output tubes, all the pickups..

Nothing else has this sound.

where do you get that backing track? it's not on the GH ISOs.
