Mesa Boogie Badlander

Post by RockyStar »

I have had this amp for a bit now and it is growing on me. It is tighter than the regular Rectos and sounds good. The controls are straight forward and it is full of great tones. Where I have a problem is that it has two exact channels (which can be great) but I am thinking this is a way to make a 1 channel amp into a 2 channel amp without really delivering the 2 channel goods.

We all know that we don't buy any Recto for its amazing clean channel so maybe I am over-thinking here? On one hand, it's a duplicate one channel amp. On the other hand, since we use Rectos for the gain, maybe it is actually a blessing in disguise to design an amp this way. Now we can get two heavy tones!

What do you think?

I think you're right on the money when you say you don't buy a recto for its clean so in effect it's sort of a 1 trick pony.

Having 2 good channels you now have a 2 trick pony which is an upgrade and better in my opinion.

I do agree that it probably isn't a true discrete 2 channel amp but does it matter if you have independent control at the front panel?

If you enjoy it and actually use it keep it, if not move it on asap if it's fetching good sale money.

I am enjoying it now that I have gotten more used to it. It is pretty fun messing around with it. I am pleasantly surprised by the crunch tones and it does clean up decently enough for some things so it does have some variety for sure.
