Uploading Avatar pics questions

Post by harddriver »

I tried to up an Avatar pic and it was too big. 91KiB. I guess it is 48KiB max. What's the easiest way to reduce the Jpeg sizes? I have never messed with editing photos much so I am am photo editing challenged.

For avatars:

Min pixel size: 90x90
Max pixel size: 128x128

Max file size: 50KB (more like 49KB)

.jpg is a "lossy" image format that is adjustable in quality.

You could use a paint program (Windows Paint etc) or an online jpg editor (search "jpg editor") and lower the quality until it fits the size requirements.

If you're on Mac, the simplest way is:

Double-click your pic to open it in Preview, the built-in, default pic editor.
In the Tools Menu, select "Adjust Size".
Enter your desired pixel width / height and hit OK.
Hold the Option key while clicking on the File Menu and choose "Save As".
Type in the name you want to call it and use the Quality slider to adjust the final size to less than 50kb.
Hit Save.

Done.
