Whole House Generator

Post by PLX »

Anybody done this :?:

I'm doing it now at my house, and I'll follow up with pics for anyone who's interested.

We had a big power grid fuck-up here last winter.. not gonna go thru that shit again.

I'm surprised you waited this long considering how prepped you are PLX..... :?

I have a Kohler 22KW. Kohler or Generac would be the best one s to get, made in USA. I've heard inventory has been tight from both manufacturers for the last two years.

I lose power usually in the winter during heavy storms, I've been without power for 2-3 days is sometimes so losing power is commonplace here. I have backup heaters in my house as well that require no electricity.

Glad to hear that you a getting one, it adds a little peace of mind.

They just closed down two nuclear power plants by me so that's about 4000 megawatts out of the grid now, I imagine that's part of their plan to drive up power generation cost on the common citizen.

I have a portable one that has gotten us through many hurricanes back in Houston. I remember during Ike in 2008, we were living in Cypress and we lost power for 3 days. This generator ran 2 refrigerators simultaneously, and paid for itself by saving all the food therein.

Yeah, I looked into that.

As it turns out.. constructing your own unlicensed, unregulated nuclear power plant is a felony. :?

I've been doing a lot of research.

What I wanted was a way to flip a couple of switches and have my entire house powered off-the-grid.

That bullshit last winter destroyed one of my on-demand gas-fired water heaters.

The cost of replacing that water heater justifies the expense of getting this whole-house generator installed.

Welder Adapter:

Since this generator is portable, I can use this adapter cable to power my arc welder anywhere on my property.
